Generative AI with Adobe Firefly

Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create a wide variety of data, such as images, videos, audio, text and 3D models. It does this by studying patterns from existing data and then using that information to create new and unique content that looks realistic and complex, almost akin to what a human can create. It has been a valuable tool for product design, game development, and various entertainment.

Recently Adobe has been incorporating AI driven capabilities for its multimedia creation tools to make the workflow easier. One case is Adobe Sensei, which uses AI and machine learning to help make informed decisions and target marketing for better results. Their latest attempt is in the form of Adobe Firefly.

Adobe Firefly is the new family of creative models coming to Adobe products, focusing on image and text effect generation using the power of generative AI. Unveiled during the Adobe Summit in March 2023, Firefly will offer new ways to ideate, create and communicate while improving the creative workflows of designers and developers alike.

Various Features

Currently, there are two features available in the beta version of Firefly:

Text to image: Much like Midjourney, Text to image allows designers to create illustrations and digital paintings by typing a text prompt. There are options to change the style, lighting, color, tone and composition of the work.

Text to effects: Using text prompts to create various styles and effects to text. The designer can control the amount of effects used on the text. ( Loose for more flowing effects, and Tight for less amount of effects).

Recolor Vectors: Creating color variations of your vector artwork from a detailed text prompt.

Extend Image: Changes the aspect ratio of your image.

Inpainting: Using a brush to add, remove or replace items with an image. Generate the fill with a text prompt.

Depth to image: Taking an image and text prompts and combining them together to create a new image.

3D to image: Using text prompts to generate images from the interactive positioning of 3D elements.

Text to Template: Designers can type detailed text prompts to generate templates that can be edited for later use. It can be used for quickly making posters and cards.

Conversational editing: Designers interact with an AI chatbot by typing the prompts, and the chatbot will produce the image with the necessary changes.

Text to Vector: Designers can generate editable vector graphics from detailed text descriptions. It is also possible to export the image to other platforms such as Adobe Photoshop and make additional edits from there.

Color conditioned image generation: A color palette is generated by uploading several images. Then designers can create a new illustration with that color palette.

Text to Pattern: Using detailed text descriptions to generate seamless tiling patterns.

Text to Brush: Artists can generate brushes for Adobe Photoshop and Fresco using text prompts.

Sketch to image: Using AI to turn simple drawings into full color images.

Video editing: Another work in progress feature to bring Generative AI for video editing, by typing prompts to change the lighting, adding music and sound effects and generating storyboards for videos and animations.

Adobe Firefly is one of the newest cases to show us that AI has been improving very quickly and efficiently. It has several interesting and promising features that help save time and money for designers while also delivering high quality results by simply using text prompts!


Multimodal Customer Experiences

The conversation between Amit, Anjul Bhambhri, and Ely Greenfield at Adobe Experience Cloud highlights the transformative impact of GenAI technology on the marketing and customer experience landscape. During the conversation, Ely shared insights on how Firefly, a new technology designed to address concerns around the safety and commercial use of GenAI, can be a massive productivity boost to creatives and marketers. Ely highlighted the importance of content supply chain and how marketers can benefit from a more granular approach to audience segmentation and personalization.

He also pointed out that the fear or problem faced by marketers is the state of the technology and the market, whether it is an IP concern, a licensing concern, or a legal concern. Anjul Bhambhri further expanded on the transformative impact of AI technology on customer experience. She shared a personal anecdote about her experience with ChatGPT while remodeling her kitchen. Anjul used ChatGPT as a virtual assistant to come up with a plan for her kitchen space. 

While ChatGPT understood her preferences and recommended the right cabinet colors, lighting, and flooring, Anjul pointed out that the AI was missing the personal context about her and the brand-specific products and recommendations. She also highlighted the need to make AI more context-rich and multimodal in order to supercharge the customer experience.

Notion AI is designed for your privacy which means your content and AI conversations will not be used to train the AI. They also provide a disclaimer that the AI might provide inaccurate responses about facts but a feature is introduced to alert them in case of such an event.
In conclusion, Notion AI is a promising technology that has the potential to transform the way we work. The firm has made Notion AI available to everyone, but it will remain a paid add-on after a usage limit which would be around 20 AI responses even for those with premium plans. 

Notion, in contrast to other tools, features a special and incredibly flexible drag-and-drop text editor, allowing for the simple rearranging and transformation of any AI-generated content. Adobe Summit 2023 – Keynote Highlights

The Adobe Summit 2023 kicked off with the keynote delivered by industry thought leaders who have extensive experience driving innovation and growth. 

The keynote speakers included Anil Chakravarthy, President of Digital Experience at Adobe; Shantanu Narayen, Chairman and CEO of Adobe; and David Wadhwani, President of Digital Media at Adobe. 

Other esteemed guests on the panel included Dave Ricks CEO of Lilly, Marcus East – VP of T-Mobile and Susan Somersille Johnson, CMO of Prudential Financial. 

Welcome Words

Anil Chakravarthy began the session by welcoming the community to the Adobe Summit and emphasizing the importance of succeeding in a dynamic market environment. He noted that every company going forward is expected to be digital first and build an ecosystem intuitive to consumers, and those who address these will have the competitive advantage over the next few years. 

Brands that work on experience can do more with less. Digital marketing and digital products are now converging, and the end-to-end customer experience is critical to growth. Adobe is concentrating on bridging the gap with new tools that will be introduced into the market over the next few days at the conference. 

AI’s improvement on Productivity 

Shantanu Narayen emphasized that as Adobe celebrates its 40th anniversary this year; the organization has grown from image publishing, document processing to a position where it is now infusing AI with its applications to improve user experience. 

Adobe’s commitment to delivering groundbreaking experiences through AI will improve the impact it has on on business. He addressed accountability, responsibility, and transparency were crucial in ensuring AI has been developed without bias.  

He stated that “AI and ML are meant to amplify, not replace, human ingenuity“. Rich and dynamic experiences through AI will now change lives and empower people to imagine, create, and deliver digital experiences with power, precision, speed, and ease.

Adobe Firefly with GenerativeAI

David Wadhwani discussed Adobe Firefly, which has been developed with a archive of 100 million stock content and open license content. Adobe firefly will use the information to generate content with simple large language models. 

Adobe Firefly can create endless variations in multiple applications and will be soon available in beta. Integrating Adobe Firefly with Experience Manager will allow for unified customer data offline and online. 

This has been achieved through studying 600 billion predictive insights created and 30 trillion audience activations every single day. Generative AI technologies, such as those found in Adobe Sensei, will redefine creativity and customer experience. 

Building a future with Experience Led Growth

The combination of generative AI and Adobe Firefly will help reimagine marketing. Adobe is focused on an experience-led growth strategy, connecting and optimizing the complete customer journey from acquisition to retention. 

Through the Adobe Mix Modeler, an organization can take better decision by integrating data from different platforms to get a visual understanding on marketing practices and return on investment. Adobe Mix Modeler and Adobe Sensei allows for adjusting marketing plans and working iteratively and agilely, leading to experience-led growth.

Enhancing Productivity Tools with AI

Microsoft announced Microsoft 365 Copilot, this would be a new set of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) integrations that is present on the suite of Office applications. The underlying engine being powered by ChatGPT as well as technology developed using Microsoft Graph and large language models (LLMs).

The Copilot system is is not just a ChatGPT engine that has been slapped on top of the user experience. It also harnesses the power of Microsoft Graph and large language models (LLMs).Copilot can now support the end user by creating content, addressing queries through the prompt method. 

Microsoft – ‘Most people use no more than ten percent of what PowerPoint can do. Copilot unlocks the other ninety percent.’ The limited use of Microsoft Applications could be seen across the board for many organizations and now Copilot helps unlock productivity and improve operational expertise.

Creating First Drafts

Now users can implement the power of Copilot to create the first draft of documents that they would need to process. It can separate information that is valid to the user and further integrate data from other sources. Furthermore, Copilot can build content with respect to a particular tone of voice. Now change writing style, make it formal, informal shorter of even longer with Copilot. 

Microsoft Teams

Copilot can summarize the team meeting that has been attended or even missed. Furthermore, quickly create a summary and even set a list of actions that may need to be achieved once the meeting is over with a few prompts.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Now create a deck of slides on PowerPoint by prompting the tone, the message and the content that would need to be generated. Import images with ease and give final touches to quickly generate powerful slides that speak and emote effectively. 

Microsoft Business Chat 

Pull information from multiple sources into a single repository using Copilot’s business chat. Use natural language to  research and produce all the information that would be need; once the information is culminated, build a deck and send it through email. 


With the big presentation Microsoft had rolled out, Copilot should be available over the next few months through its various Office 365 applications; users have to now wait to test Copilot on real time data.
